Prerequisite Courses

We accept students from all undergraduate majors. To ensure student success, the program is transitioning to a new model that replaces multiple prerequisite courses with a single integrated foundations course, depending on the student's start term.

Students Starting in Summer 2025:

Students beginning the MSOM program in Summer 2025 will be required to complete the undergraduate prerequisite course OMGT 48503: Introduction to Decision Support Tools with a grade of “C” or better.

A free proficiency exam is available for students who wish to demonstrate competency and potentially waive this requirement. Students are allowed one attempt, and a passing score of 70% or higher (completed before the session deadline) will allow them to opt out of OMGT 48503. The exam deadline is May 12, 2025. You must pass the proficiency exam on or before this date to be eligible to waive the requirement.

Undergraduate prerequisites do not count toward financial aid enrollment for graduate students.

Students Starting in Fall 2025 or Later:

Beginning in Fall 2025, the MSOM program will adopt a new format to include a new foundations course in lieu of the former prerequisite. All students will instead take OMGT 5770V: OM Foundations, a graduate-level course designed to provide a strong baseline in decision support tools and other essential concepts. A grade of "B" or better is needed to satisfy the requirement.

Students starting in Fall 2025 or later also have the option to waive the OM Foundations course by passing a free proficiency exam. Students may attempt it once, and a score of 70% or higher will exempt them from OMGT 5770V.
