Prerequisite Courses

We accept students from all undergraduate majors, therefore it is important that all entering students have a solid foundation in a common core of relevant subjects and require students to satisfy four undergraduate course prerequisites: Business Law, Accounting, Statistics, and Decision Support Tools. 

OMGT Prerequisite courses are 3-credit-hour, online undergraduate 8-week classes, with tuition costs of $303.88 per credit hour.  They are not required to be completed before being admitted to the program, but they should be the first classes you take once admitted. Prerequisites must be completed in accordance with graduate course pre- & corequisites.

Undergraduate prerequisites do not count toward financial aid enrollment for graduate students.

MSOM Prerequisites can be met in the following ways:

  1. Completion of the University of Arkansas OMGT course
  2. Completion of an equivalent 3-credit hour undergraduate course from another accredited institution with a grade of C or better
  3. Successful completion of an equivalent self-paced course through saylor.org or an acceptable CLEP exam score.  No University of Arkansas credit will be awarded for the completion of a course via saylor.org.

Introduction to Decision Support Tools (OMGT 4853) cannot be met by completing a saylor.org class or undergraduate credit from another institution, it can only be completed by taking the course OR taking the OMGT 4853 Proficiency Exam.  See the chart below for more information.

In all cases a grade of "C" or better must be attained in order for the prerequisite to be satisfied.  Undergraduate prerequisites do not count towards graduate GPA requirements.

OMGT 4313 - Law and Ethics Business Law, Legal Environment of Business, Saylor Direct Credit BUS205 Business Law & Ethics (must take a proctored final exam for credit), CLEP Introductory Business Law score of 50 or higher
OMGT 4323 - Industrial Cost Analysis Any Accounting course taught using U.S. GAAP Standards; Saylor Direct Credit (must take a proctored final exam for credit) BUS103 Introduction to Financial Accounting or BUS 105 Managerial Accounting; CLEP Financial Accounting score of 50 or higher
OMGT 4333 - Applied Statistics Statistics from any academic discipline; Saylor Direct Credit (must take a proctored final exam for credit) MA121 Introduction to Statistics or BUS 204 Business Statistics.
OMGT 4853 - Introduction to Decision Support Tools in Operations Management Completion of either the Excel Proficiency Exam for MSOM (with a passing score of 70%) OR the OMGT 4853 Introduction to Decision Support Tools 8-week course is required.***OMGT 4853 cannot be met by completing a saylor.org class or undergraduate credit from another institution, it can only be completed by taking the course OR taking the OMGT 4853 Proficiency Exam.  If you are interested in completing the Proficiency Exam, contact your advisor for more information.  For the Exam study guide with a list of Exam topics, click here.
